About the Role
Thermal Process Systems is seeking a motivated and eager to learn Controls Specialist to join our team. As a Controls Specialist, you will work with our controls team to design, test, and implement automated systems that facilitate wastewater treatment solutions. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues, and aid in developing new systems as the company continues to improve.

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operators and maintenance, to identify and resolve control-related issues.

  • Develop and maintain electrical and process documentation.
  • Design and create electrical schematics and other project documentation in AutoCAD.

  • Configure new process instrumentation, AC drives, and other automated controls devices.

  • Wire controls systems in-house according to electrical schematics.

  • Conduct factory testing on instrumentation, AC drives, and other automated control devices.

  • Travel as part of a team to newly constructed job sites for finalized implementation of controls systems.

  • Provide technical expertise and support to process individuals and maintenance teams to ensure proper equipment operation.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in automation technology or equivalent experience in a similar field.

  • Basic knowledge of fundamental electrical principles.

  • Competence with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power point, Teams, etc.).
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Strong task management skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to work from Crown Point, IN Headquarters Office.

  • Travel out of office around 20-30 percent.
  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools.
  • Prior experience/exposure to any form of computer programming.

  • Prior knowledge of computer networking infrastructure.
  • Strong mathematical ability.
  • Aptitude for understanding principles of physics around liquids or electricity.

Location & Travel

  • In office (Crown Point, Indiana) position
  • Requirements as requested for travel unrestricted throughout North America.
  • Willingness to respond to emergencies and work odd hours, if necessary.

About the Role
Thermal Process Systems is seeking a motivated and eager to learn Controls Specialist to join our team. As a Controls Specialist, you will work with our controls team to design, test, and implement automated systems that facilitate wastewater treatment solutions. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues, and aid in developing new systems as the company continues to improve.

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Sales, product, and engineering teams to develop technical solutions.

  • Translate client requirements into functional system designs.

  • Attend and interact with production, design, and pre-project development meetings.

  • Review pre-construction design and documentation.

  • Conduct and participat in client meetings, demonstrations, and technical needs assessments.
  • Act as the technical liaison between clients and internal teams.

  • Support clients with technical support and troubleshooting.

  • Coordinate with project staff, other disciplines, subconsultants, clients, and reviewers to ensure accuracy and quality of work.

  • Assist in proposal development, scopes of work, and fee schedule preparation.

  • Mentor junior staff with technical and professional development.

  • Propose product improvements based on feedback and innovations.

  • Support the electrical team with timely process equipment evaluations and information.

  • Design and integration of patented wastewater treatment solutions, including custom system components (e.g., skids, flow meters, pumps, blowers).

  • As required, conduct site visits, commissioning assistance, and acceptance testing.

  • Training of customers, sales reps, and internal teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Water, Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Biotechnology preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years wastewater treatment or industrial engineering.
  • Strong coordination and multitasking abilities.

  • Fluent English.
  • Strong technical analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of water and wastewater treatment technologies.

  • Experience with general construction, utilities, and/or water and wastewater treatment plants.

  • Ability to read and understand civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical drawings.

  • Ability to create process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Excellent inter-company and external communication and collaborative abilities.

  • Control Logic design and implementation (desirable, but not required).

  • Computer-aided design (CAD) experience and proficiency.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).

  • Experience with Pro-Core, Fieldwire, or similar software.

  • A Flexible, solution-oriented mindset.

  • Humility in admitting being wrong and learning from it.

  • Confidence to make decisions in situations when there is not enough information available.

  • Technical writing capabilities.

Location & Travel

  • In office (Crown Point, Indiana) position.

  • Negotiable long-term hybrid work after one year, but will require at least three days per week in the office.
  • Requirements as requested for travel unrestricted throughout North America.
